Filewise Privacy Policy

Filewise reads, names and files your documents entirely on your Mac. File contents are never uploaded. Only the few kinds of data listed below leave your computer, and the anonymous usage statistics can be turned off in Settings.
1. Data flow at a glance

2. What the anonymous statistics contain
To learn which features work and where people get stuck, Filewise sends the following to Gatheon's analytics service:
- a randomly generated device identifier, stored in the app's local preferences. It is not your Apple ID, serial number or advertising identifier, and the server stores only a salted hash of it;
- feature event types with coarse buckets: launch, Full Disk Access result, onboarding progress, whether a naming suggestion was accepted or rejected, recognition time ranges, which model tier was used, and whether a flow succeeded with the category of any failure;
- app version, macOS version, install channel (website download, script or Homebrew) and interface language;
- a coarse crash category.
The service may infer an approximate region from the network request. IP addresses are not stored.
3. What we do not collect
Never sent: file names, folder names, paths, file contents, OCR text, recognized people, company names or amounts, or any contact detail other than the email you enter yourself. Both the app and the server restrict the event format and discard any event that does not match. The data is not used for advertising, not sold, and not used for cross-product tracking.
4. Third-party services
- Gatheon's own analytics service (t.gatheon.com, hosted on Cloudflare): anonymous usage statistics, see section 2;
- Sparkle update framework: update checks, see section 1;
- ModelScope, Hugging Face, GitHub: contacted only to download the local model;
- Ollama (optional): if you install Ollama yourself and enable it in Settings, requests go to the Ollama address on your own machine and stay local.
5. Website analytics
This website uses Google Analytics 4 (proxied through a Gatheon domain) and PostHog to measure visits, sources and page errors. It is not used for advertising. Page fonts are served by Google Fonts. Emails submitted through the early-access form are stored in Cloudflare KV without IP addresses.
6. Your choices
- Turn off statistics: Settings → General → Privacy and improvement → switch off "Send anonymous usage statistics";
- Delete local data: quit Filewise, then delete the app and
~/Library/Application Support/Filewise; - Remove an email you entered, or ask what the server holds about you: write to [email protected].
7. Children
Filewise is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.

Material changes will update the date at the top of this page.
